Meet Kera, a 20 something young lady who is very outgoing and loves to smile.

Always conscientious about her oral health, Kera practiced good hygiene habits to maintain her dentition at an above average level.

Nonetheless, like for many of today's "dentistry-aware" young adults, having a great looking and almost absolutely perfect smile was important for Kera.

She had a significant diastema that she no longer wanted. Considered a cute feature for all of us when we are very young, our patient prefered having a full smile with proportionately sized teeth that would match all of her natural teeth.

Dark, spotted gum tissue was also a concern. The condition of overproduction of melanin pigmentation was a characteristic of her family genetics. Both the upper and lower jaws had significant clustering of melanin deposits.

Gum Bleaching versus Gum Lasing

Kera's smile characterstically exposed upper gum (gingiva) tissue only. In addition to closing the large gap on her upper arch, Kera requested a "gum bleaching treatment" that would get rid of the dark tissues forever.

Dr. Bram explained the dynamics and principals of Laser treatments that would remove the darkened areas and achieve the pink gum outcome she was looking for... all without the use of any bleaching compounds.

Treatment Plan: Pink Smile Makeover

Dr. Bram provided Kera with examples of different types of cosmetic results with a wide choice of popular products including feldspathic porcelain products that are popular choices for restorations, including premium crowns and ceramic laminates (veneers).

Our patient finally selected a plan of treatments that would incorporate laser gum treatments, the use of 6 feldspathic porcelain veneers on her anterior (front-most) teeth and the replacement of two old crowns that she felt were mismatched for the smile she wanted.

The post op photos show off the degree of cosmetic change wanted by the patient. Kera looks great and feels great about her new smile makeover.
