Black Female Dark Gingival Excess Pigmentation

Many patients have cultural factors and imbalances of pigmentation components which form the basis for unusual colorations of ginigival tissues.

The range of darkening effects can be spotted or splotchy (light and dark brown).... all the way to nearly 100% of the gum tissues. Black gums usually refers to the condition where all or most gum tissue is affected, with a complete brown appearance.

As can be seen in this first close up photo, a female patient had spotted or splotchy gums, with differing shades of brown tissue. She reported feeling very self conscious about this and wanted a change.

Her gingival tissues were quite healthy. She nonetheless felt she had an unhealthy smile... and refrained from smiling often. Her goal was to have healthy looking, pink gums.

Comfortable Treatment

Discomfort for the patient, both during and after treatments was minimal. Patients commonly report having itchy gums for a short time during the post operative period. For other patients it may be several days.
